ULMS Resource Management : Display of Notes (MARC 5XX Fields) in Primo: Some Recommendations

Background

Libraries have requested that specific MARC notes fields be mapped to and displayed in their own separate labels (fields) in Primo, similar to the display of notes in records in WorldCat (http://www.worldcat.org/oclc/982127376), which would provide specific information about the type of note and make notes easier to read. Currently, notes are mapped to and displayed under the single label “Description" in Primo.

Recommendations

  1. Change the display label Description to Notes.

  2. Display Contents and Summary notes in their own field:

    1. Map MARC field 505 to Contents

    2. Map MARC field 520 to Summary

  3. Display Immediate Source of Acquisition (MARC 541) and Awards (MARC 586) under Notes.

  4. In the future, evaluate requests for displaying specific notes in their own field in Primo, for example:
